Hello dear readers!

What an incredible year it has been. As the ball dropped to signify the transition from 2018 to 2019, I – like many folks – reflected on the vast difference 365 days can make.

A year ago, I was going through one of the most challenging and painful times of my life. I let go of someone whom I had held very dear for nearly 8 years, packed up what little I owned, and made the move back to my hometown of St. Louis – something 2017 Chelsey would never have given two seconds of thought to.

I have been fortunate enough to have traveled far and wide this past year. To lose myself in the blue waters of Isla Mujeres only to find myself again whilst singing “Ein Prosit” at the top of my lungs at Munich’s Oktoberfest. I made my way back to Ireland, where my soul once again found peace. I celebrated the beautiful, blossoming love of two incredible people as they said ‘I do’, and helped to welcome a new bundle of joy into the world.

But with joy, there was still pain. In the whirlwind of moving, traveling, and embracing the new and exciting, I mourned the less palpable sides. The loss of my first true love, of a family I had grown to love as much as my own, of the independence I prided myself on for years. On days when I’m a little less me and a little more someone else, the painful reminders saunter out and stay for a while to remind me they’re still there. However, as Dumbledore in his infinite wisdom said:

All in all, the choices I made in the last year were solidly founded and well contemplated. I love being home. I love the ability to see my lifelong friends more often. I love the flexibility my new work at home gig offers me. I love the new keeper of my heart. I love the endless possibilities that have become so prevalent.

I’ve taken my time to regain a sense of who I am and who I want to be. So, great news for all my followers….

Yaaasss queen! I’m going full steam ahead on this here blog, so prepare for far more frequent updates and activity (no really, I promise this time).

Stay tuned for more info later this week on my guest appearance on an awesome plus size traveler podcast focusing on travel in Bavaria! In the meantime, check out my friend Julia’s blog, where I collaborated with her and another fellow traveler on what I wish I knew about traveling solo.

Til next time,

CKD
